Who am I?
My name is David Charles and I’m a writer, outdoor instructor and wilderness therapeutic guide in training.
I am currently the Expeditions Manager at British Exploring Society and former director of Thighs of Steel, Europe’s longest charity bike ride, which between 2016 and 2023 raised over £760,000 for grassroots refugee solidarity projects.
Why subscribe?
Every email I send will focus on one aspect of being human and give you one nature-based practice that you can use this week to bring you into closer connection with yourself, with your loved ones, and with the natural world around you.
This is evidence-based wilderness therapy, designed for real life — your life.
Plus you’ll get access to my full archive, which includes almost everything I’ve ever written in the past 20 years, from interviews inside a Greek refugee camp, to a behind-the-scenes look at writing a BBC sitcom, or a deep dive into the science of psychedelics. Check out the archives for a flavour.
No but seriously who am I?
In the dim and distant past (2017-2021), I co-wrote four series of BBC sitcom Foiled, which you can listen to here.
I have also been known to work with smattering of environment, adventure and refugee organisations including The Bike Project and Global Landscape Forum.
I also recently became a dad. Which might explain my erratic publication schedule.
Hello you!
I love getting emails so feel free to hit reply whenever inspiration strikes—questions, comments, stories and suggestions all welcome.
Big love,
