What is UKHIP?
Putting Humanity back into Humanitarian Intervention
UKHIP is the United Kingdom Humanitarian Intervention Party and is more of an idea than a political party: an idea that every human, no matter where they come from, deserves to be treated equally and with respect.
This is manifestly not happening in Calais, where people from some of the most dangerous places on earth - Syria, Afghanistan, Eritrea, Sudan - are being forced to live the lives of animals, scraping a living from the waste of our society, beating their heads against the walls of our border.
The news from Calais isn't great. Calais Migrant Solidarity have a catalogue of attacks on migrants and activists by fascists. The 'Jungles' and squats where the migrants are living have all been served eviction notices, which will probably happen at the beginning of April.
(If you're wondering why I'm supporting UKHIP and the migrants in Calais: it's only luck. It's only luck that I was born with a British passport and can happily go trampling all over the world, while billions of other humans cannot. Not only that; we punish them for trying.)
UKHIP Conference - Next Monday 23rd March 19h00 - London
All this makes it all the more urgent that you come and share dinner with us on Monday!
Doing something doesn't have to be boring, as some chancers found when they decided to paste up UKHIP's "Share the Loaf" image onto a billboard in Hackney!
Together we are stronger, together we can slowly change the prevailing madness of UKIP and the other mainstream political parties who are so keen on deadly borders.
We will be gathering at Sanford Housing Cooperative in New Cross from 19h00 on Monday, to break bread together, share ideas and stories, watch some films and get inspired. There will be vegan dal and plenty of tea and cake (including gluten-free). Please feel free to come with a dish to share!
We will also be collecting donations of tents, sleeping bags, gloves, dominoes and playing cards.
If you'd like to support UKHIP, please take a moment to:
Help fund and share our IndieGoGo campaign to raise money for tents, sleeping bags and food. The campaign ends on Saturday and we can still raise more!
Come to the UKHIP Conference on the 23rd of March in London.
Come to Calais on the 28th of March! P&O Ferrries are doing £30 day returns.
I hope to see you soon!
Love and solidarity,
David
ps: If you have any misgivings about migrants, then UKHIP have a great Mythbusting page (what I wrote) that responds to the myths that migrants steal benefits and jobs; that Britain is a 'soft touch' and 'full up'; and that migrants should stay at home. Enjoy the ammunition.
