An intermediate week...
Happy Friday!
This week has been an intermediate one: setting traps for the future. I found out that I've been accepted onto the Curtis Brown course that I mentioned last time (The Most Living synopsis here), so with deep breaths and crossed fingers, I plunge into that next month.
With Beth, we've been prodding around some ideas for a potential second series of Foiled for Radio Wales. The proposal goes in next week, so more crossed fingers and touching of wood, please. There's even talk of a theatrical revival. Watch this email!
On a more esoteric note, I signed up for some Arabic lessons taught by refugees, and for a psychedelic breathwork workshop organised by the Psychedelic Society (no substances besides oxygen). More on these experiments next week...
MINOR UPDATES
Wim Hof Method: The push ups have stalled somewhat this past week: I'm stuck on 40-44. Mind you, this is still ∞ times better than when I started. My breath holds are much longer this week. My PB now stands at 3 minutes 54 seconds, which is ridiculous. Go on, I bet you can't hold your breath for more than a minute.
Running: Injured again. I really have to stop doing anything that isn't running in a straight line. Next big run: Gosport Half Marathon on 19 November. This is me on Strava.
INPUT
I got five on it.
FOOD: Sakonis Indian Vegetarian Restaurant in Wembley. Sensational chilli paneer, cuddly service.
GYM: Put your treadmill on a 1% incline to simulate outdoor conditions.
BOOK: What Am I Doing Here by Bruce Chatwin. Particularly interesting essay on the relationship between nomadism and religion - pilgrimages as prescriptions to cure restless insanity.
BIKES: Made of wood. Reminds me that I once promised a roomful of people that I was going to cycle around the world on a bamboo bicycle. That was in 2010. I'm a terrible liar.
OPTIMISM: What went right? July to September 2017 - Positive News.
OUTPUT
Business from the Daveness.
The Most Living: Synopsis (October)
Wim Hof: The Cold is Our Teacher (September)
Stoicism and The Word of God (September)
Thanks for stopping by. I can only leave you with more randomly selected words of wisdom from 2,000 years ago. I feel a genuine sense of privilege in passing these on.
Test for yourself your capacity for the good man's life; the life of one content with his allotted part in the universe, who seeks only to be just in his doings and charitable in his ways. (Meditations 4:25)
Be content.
