Save 1 hour a day with No Tabbed Browsing
Happy Friday from Sunny Wales!
This week I'm going to either bore the pants off you, or somehow help you save an hour of your time every day. We're talking tabbed browsing - in my opinion (backed up with stats) now one of the banes of our modern digital existence.
Frankly, I'm pretty embarrassed about sharing such a geeky post. But if, like me, you feel chained to the hedonic treadmill of The Internet, then let's forget our shame and look at the facts.
Since introducing No Tabbed Browsing nine weeks ago:
I use my computer for 1 hour 8 minutes less per day. That's more than 7 hours a week freed up.
My computer-based productivity has increased 7%.
I spend 45 minutes less on distracting computer tasks (mostly internet browsing).
I visit about half the number of web pages I used to.
And significantly more of these are as a result of direct search, rather than web trawling (88% compared to 70%). No more scatter-gun for me!
I won’t blame you if you skip this one, but if you think you might have a problem...
Thanks for reading! Now what?
Well, here we are in glorious Wales! Yesterday, Beth Granville and I visited the amazing Sophisticut salon in Tonypandy, where our sitcom Foiled is set and will be recorded.
Before that can happen, we'd better get on and finish writing. Friends of the Granvilles are kindly lending us their house in Tenby so that we can live distraction-free for a week, after which we hope to have four first draft episodes.
Mark and Kim - thank you!
As usual, let me know what you think. I'd be particularly interested to hear your tips and tricks for putting productive limitations on the energy-sucking vortex that is The Web.
In the meantime, may Doris be at your back, -DC
